KAKALANO Village Catholic Parish in Dala, North Malaita, last week celebrated the official opening of their newly constructed church.

A blessing of the church service was conducted by Diocese of Auki Bishop Christopher Cardone.

Called the St Joseph the Work Church, Bishop Cardone urged the community to take good care of it.

Construction of the church is supported by West Kwara’ae MP Sam Iduri, Foo KK, New Venture Company and the tireless efforts of Kakalano Community through fundraising activities.

Speaking on behalf of Mr Iduri, West Kwara’ae Community Development Officer Nicholas Laua said the completion of the church is a blessing for the community.

“This episode marks a step forward in the lives of the Christian people of Kakalano which should be given great honor and recognition by both the entire Christian community and the society,” he said.

“This is not merely the blessing and the opening of the church building but I see it as an improvement of the facility to use for the enhancement of the principle guiding patron Saint of Kakalano community.”

Mr Laua urged Kakalano community to use the church in accordance to the principles of their Patron Saint.

He added that Kakalano is among one of many churches receiving this kind of assistance from their Member of Parliament.

The special guests to the ceremony also praised the people of Kakalano for their hard work.

Community elders presented gifts of appreciation to the special guests stating that church programmes have already been drawn up by the community’s executive committee.

Various groups within Dala Parish attended Tuesday’s ceremony and also presented gifts to Kakalano community.

Feasting and dancing concluded the ceremony which is described by many as very successful.
