THE Brisbane-Munda direct service is a loss for Solomon Airlines.

Solomon Airlines Manager Commercial Collin Sigamanu told reporters in a press conference during the Tourism Focus last Friday.

“If we want Munda to become viable, it needs to reach 80 passengers,” he said.

The airlines introduced the service in March 2019 after Munda was declared an international airport.

Sigimanu further expressed that currently Solomon Airlines has recruited a marketing manager in Brisbane that works with Tourism Solomons and Ministry of Tourism.

He added that they are actively involved in playing their parts to make sure there are enough activities on the ground through attraction to Western Province an attractive holiday destination.

“We are competing with our neighbours so there are varying factors,” he said.

Sigamanu said Brisbane-Munda is a new market and a new route in terms of airline destination Solomons.

He said Solomon Airlines will carry out a review to see whether the route is viable or not.

Meanwhile Solomon Airlines has just release the country’s flag carrier Airbus 321 aircraft to its new owner in the North America.

The Airbus left the country over the week after serving Solomon Islands since 2009.

Solomon Airlines will be using other airlines from one of the pacific nations but that is yet to be confirmed.
