A GROUP of Fijian women who were descendants of Malaitans brought to work in Fiji’s sugarcane industry in the past have arrived in Auki on Monday, in search of their roots.

According to team leader Ema Asioli, the group of women from the Anglican Diocese of Polynesia in Fiji is purposely here in Malaita for three reasons.

"First, we come here to connect our roots. Our ancestors are from Malaita."

"Second, we came from the Diocese of Polynesia to build a relationship with Dioceses here in Malaita and Honiara."

"The third reason is, we are on a mission sharing the word of God with other women here."

Mrs Asiola said the group will spend one week in Malaita before returning to Honiara.

In Honiara, they will spend one week with Christ the King Parish at Gilbert Camp, east Honiara before going back to Fiji.

“The group is happy to finally set foot on Malaita soil, which is the land of their ancestors,” the excited Solomon Islands descendant said.
