THE Weightlifting Oceania Talent Identification Program (OTIP) scheduled to start on Tuesday was canceled due to the heavy downpour experienced in Honiara recently.

According to the supervisor, the country’s top female weightlifter Jenly Wini Tegu the program should start on Tuesday but had to be canceled.

She said they will start tomorrow at White River community high school in West Honiara.

“The weightlifting OTIP program for kids and youths was scheduled to start yesterday but had to be canceled because of the rainy weather.

“We will start off with the second part of the program at the White River school on Thursday.

“On Thursday the identification exercise will be held at White River community between 4pm to 5pm.

This is a very good opportunity for young aspiring lifters to win a trip to the Oceania Weightlifting Institute in New Caledonia.

The program is to identify potential talented students for the sport of weightlifting and also educate young students in the correct way and safe way of lifting.

Ms Wini will be observing young participants during the program and will select the potential weightlifter for this award.

The lucky winner will receive a seven day trip to the Weightlifting Institute in New Caledonia where many of Oceania’s best lifters train.

The package for the winner includes free airlines ticket to New Caledonia, free accommodation and meals at the Institute, free internal transport and an Oceania Institute T-shirt.
