Ombudsman conference starts tomorrow

A two day Pacific Ombudsman Alliances (POA) annual conference will kicks off tomorrow in Honiara.

Solomon Islands is the host for this year.

Some members of the delegation arrived in Honiara yesterday with the rest will arriving today.

The conference which ends on Thursday has attracted 35 participants from New Zealand, Australia, Cook Islands, Tonga, Samoa, Vanuatu Papua New Guinea, Niue, New Caledonia, Nauru, Palau, and Timor Leste.

Solomon Islands was given the right to host this conference after discussions in Canberra last year.

The Solomon Islands Ombudsman Joe Poraiwai earlier stated that the conference will be co hosted by the Ombudsman’s office and the office of the Leadership Code Commission (LCC).

This year’s conference will be the third since the concept was introduced in 1999 and implemented in 2008 where Vanuatu was the host.

 The conference is held yearly and Pacific Island states will take turn to host.
