GIZO residents, drivers, and vehicle owners acknowledged the recently completed tar-sealed road in the township.
The tar-sealing project is part of rehabilitation project after the tsunami/earthquake disaster in 2007.
Asian Development Bank (ADB) funded the project.
The construction work was carried out by local road maintenance firm Dalgro late last year.
It was handed over to the Western Provincial Government after its completion in November.
Speaking to Solomon Star in Gizo early this week, a frequent user of the road and driver Endson Sasapitu said the completion of the road has boosted the image of Gizo and also allow taxi and other vehicles to move freely without any pot holes.
In the past when it’s dry it generates dust and pools of mud during rainy season.
A long time resident and health worker Mark Palen said dust which is being generated by vehicles on the road is now avoided.
"People passing through Gizo now can enjoy walking through the streets without breathing any dusts," he said.
Apart from the tarsealing Dalgro also improved the drainage system, culverts and sides of the roads.
The tar-sealing runs from the KHY area to the hospital.
Dalgro will continue to improve other roads on the island of Gizo.
