POLICE in Malaita yesterday recaptured the prisoner who escaped from the Auki juvenile cell last week.

The juvenile was recaptured at 10:05am.

On Wednesday night last week, the young male managed to jump over the newly built fence of the Auki cell.

Provincial Police Commander John Walenenea confirmed to the Solomon Star from Auki that the Participating Police Force together with local police recaptured the escapee at his parent’s home.

Meanwhile, the correctional service in a statement yesterday acknowledged the work of the community for assisting the police in their recapture.

They said the fact that the young man’s parents were very cooperative in handing over back the boy to police authorities was commendable.

“We would like to thank the communities that are involved in assisting the police and also the juvenile’s parent’s for their assistance,” the correctional service said.

Correctional Services Commissioner Francis Haisoma last week told the Solomon Star that such escapes was not necessary but because of negligence by his officers the young man managed to escape.
