OUR Telekom National Beach Soccer Championships will kick off today at DC Park.
Honiara will take on Renbel I in the opening match of Group 1 at 9:00am this morning.
This match will be followed by the first match for Group 2 between Makira/Ulawa Sharks and Malaita Outer Islands.
Other matches will follow throughout the day with the final match being played at 5:00pm in the afternoon.
The opening ceremony of the Our Telekom National Beach Soccer Championship was held yesterday at the SIFF Academy.
A uniform parade was organised with the teams marching from the Our Telekom Recreation Centre in Ranadi to the SIFF Academy.
A brief ceremony ensued at the SIFF Academy with speeches from the National Sports Council Chief Executive Officer, David Firisua, and the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) Vice President, Stanley Siapu.
In his address to the teams, Firisua said that beach soccer requires discipline and players need to work hard to become members of the National Beach Soccer Team.
In a twist before the first match day of the championship Guadalcanal and Temotu were excluded after they failed to pay their registrations fees by the deadline which was 6:00pm Monday 26th April. This leaves only 10 teams in the competition.
The teams in the competition have been divided in 2 pools of 5 teams each. The top 2 teams in each pool after all pool matches have been played will progress to the semi finals.
All pool matches are scheduled to be completed by Friday.
The semi finals and grand final will be played on Saturday 1st May.
