THE Solomon Islands Council of Trade Union (SICTU) has decided to meet with Parliamentary Entitlement Commission (PEC) over the 11 percent pay rise by MPs.
The decision was reached following a meeting at SICTU's office in Honiara yesterday afternoon.
SICTU General Secretary, Tony Kagovai said they will write to PEC and the government in the next two weeks seeking dialogue
Earlier, SICTU came up with three options:
- To stage a nationwide strike;
- To carry out demonstration and;
- To take Parliamentary Entitlement Commission (PEC) to court.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Dr Derek Sikua told the media yesterday the Coalition of National Unity and Rural Advancement (CNURA) did not make any submissions to the PEC.
He said it should also be noted that the last pay increase for MPs granted by the PEC was in 2006.
"Public servants on the other hand have had pay increases in 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010, totalling about 29% pay increase since 2006.
"The latest MPs pay increase as per the 2010 PER was granted taking into account the pay increases given to public servants over the last few years," he said.
