THE World Health Organisation (WHO) office in Honiara last week rewarded its longest serving worker with a special award.

Ronald Mathias Hevalao from Isabel Province joined WHO in 1989 as a driver.

This is his 21st year with the office and the Ministry of Health and Medical Service. The award was in recognition for his long and dedicated service.

On receiving his award, Mr Hevalao said it was a privilege working with an international organisation.

``I enjoyed my work with WHO despite the many challenges I encountered,’’ he said.

Mr Hevalao said he first worked as a driver.

Now, he said he was also working as a receptionist.

He said the highlight of his career was when he was chosen to be the driver for world Catholic leader Pope John Paul II when he visited the country on 8 May 1984.

Head of WHO office Dr William Krow congratulated Mr Hevalao for his long and dedicated service to the organisation.

Corina Teika, along with WHO staff, joined hands to present Mr Hevalao his award last week.
