Onika slams claims

E-mail Print
A CANDIDATE contesting the East Guadalcanal seat in the upcoming election denies making huge promises of money to people there.
Joseph Onika was responding to claims by constituent Michael Chavua published in the paper last Friday.

Mr Chavua claimed Mr Onika had promised the people that they will be given up to $30,000 if they pay membership fees to OUR Party, which is being led by former Opposition leader Manasseh Sogavare.

Mr Onika is a member of OUR Party.

Mr Onika denied making such promises, adding someone must have used Mr Chavua’s name to make the claim because Mr Chavua is a disabled man who lived in the village.

“The person who made the claim was a real coward. But I want to thank him for his attempt to rubbish my name,” he said.

Mr Onika said everything the person claimed and was published in the media was fabricated and a deliberate attempt to tarnish his name.

“As one of the Our Party members, I want to assure my good people of East Guadalcanal that I have been campaigning under the policies of the party.”

He appeals to his people to attend their campaign rally on July 11 and 12 at Rere Point.

“This is an opportunity for the people to ask questions and queries about OUR Party policies.”
