Cane furniture popular amongst foreigners |
LOCALLY manufactured cane furniture is becoming popular amongst foreigners who are buying more to decorate homes and family use.
General Manager of Solcane Furniture Company Hilton Gatho revealed this yesterday as the company along with its Isabel Development Company (IDC) subsidiaries prepare to celebrate the Isabel Province Second Appointed day next weekend. Mr Gatho said since the company opened its new warehouse near the Henderson Airport in February last year, the demand for cane furniture continues to rise. "And most of the buyers are expatriates, especially members of the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI), who ordered the locally-made furniture to decorate their homes," he said. Mr Gatho said some ordered chairs, coffee tableS, lounge suitS and other furniture of their choices. Apart from the expatriates, there are motels, hotels and businesses that are ordering the cane products. He said with the increasing demand, there is a need for expansion. Solcane employed 21 workers, mostly male who worked five days a week at the Henderson based production warehouse. By MOFFAT MAMU |
