Mr Lilo made the assurance when he officially opened the National Trade and Agriculture show yesterday afternoon.
He said the current government through the Ministry of Commerce Industry labour and Immigration has commenced preparatory work for establishment of Small and Medium Enterprises Hubs in Temotu, Makira, Malaita and Guadalcanal.
“This arrangement is a classic example of partnership arrangements between the government and private sector for promotion and development of SME’s,” he said.
He said in this case, the Ministry has engaged Small and Medium Enterprise Council, MASE and Solomon Islands Business Enterprise Center as registered and legitimate service providers for training of existing and potential small business in Honiara and the Provinces.
“With this arrangement, the Ministry has identified a few impediments constraining our local existing and potential entrepreneurs from expanding their business activities and commencing their business ideas.
“So the Ministry has commenced its consultation process towards establishment of a Small and Medium Enterprise Support Fund.
“This is an important undertaking which we believe will provide direct assistance for promotion and developing small and medium industries in our rural economies given the rural and small and medium enterprise policies of our financial institutions,” the Prime Minister said.
