Guadalcanal Convention to consider city boundary

THE Guadalcanal Provincial Convention, which is currently reviewing the 2011 Draft Federal Constitution for two weeks, will be considering Honiara City’s boundary shared with the Province in its review exercise next week.


According to team leader of Guadalcanal Constitutional Congress Hilda Kari, the Convention, which started on April 30, has moved ahead of its program to review majority of the Chapters in the 2011 Draft including the Preamble this week.

Mrs Kari said, now they are preparing to consider the Honiara City boundary in detail according to Chapter 17 starting Monday next week, along with ten Schedules of the draft Federal Constitution.

Mrs Kari and the Province’s Congress team members Mr. Rodger Tovosia and Joseph Anea; EPAC members Jerry Sabino and Paul Tovua, and National Nominee Walton Naezon are at the AOG Centre in Binu with about 50 participants including community leaders, Members of the Provincial Assembly, legal professionals from the Province, women, and youth representatives, for this Convention.

Consultant Lawyer of Constitutional Reform Unit (CRU) Reginald Teutao has been with the Convention since it commenced to provide legal assistance.

Guadalcanal Convention should be complete by May 11,  2012, and will be followed on by Central Islands Provincial Convention on May 14.
