Tovosia will be accompanied by Prime Minister’s private bodyguard, John Dominic and Fataleka MP, Steve Abana and Chinese businessman, John Aba on an invitation to attend a road show promotional event.
One political appointee, who decided to withhold his name for fear of losing his job, said they met yesterday and were not happy because the trip happens amidst the ongoing political war of words between Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo and Opposition leader Dr Derek Sikua.
“The delegation should cancel their trip especially because Opposition is still attacking the Government with alot of allegations,” the appointee said.
“We are still waiting for any response from Prime Minister and his delegation in Japan.”
Opposition yesterday came out to denounce the trip after the news came out on media.
Its leader Dr Derek Sikua claimed the trip was highly suspicious because it includes a Chinese business man, John Abba.
Dr Sikua said anything to do with seeking investment trip should come under Minister for Commerce, Industries, Labour and Immigration.
He said it is also diplomatically inappropriate for a minister of the crown to head any delegation to the Peoples’ Republic of China because any trade or investment trip as this should only be made at the officials’ level.
“Furthermore the trip reflects insensitivity by the NCRA Government towards Solomon Islands diplomatic relations with the Republic of China on Taiwan,” Dr Sikua said.
