A joint statement yesterday from
the Office of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Rural and Indigenous
Development said the failure to make acquittals could result in the delay of
the disbursement of the ROC support to Constituency Development next month and
for this year.
The statement describes the lack of acquittal by the MP for North East Guadalcanal and the Leader of Official Opposition as a “laughing stock”.
“The MP for North East Guadalcanal who is seen as the watchdog, with public a spectacle and the most upright man has never acquitted ROC support to constituency development funds for 2011,” the statement, said.
The other constituencies that have yet to produce reports on how they spent their funds were East Honiara, North West Guadalcanal and Temotu Pele.
In another related issue, the PMO and the Ministry of Rural Development have also expressed concern on the lack of acquittal by the former Prime Minister Danny Philip of the $7.5m he received and subsequently paid to his close associates and cronies.
The statement said this is a very serious issue as lack of acquittals from the MPs will severely affect the rural people who are benefiting from Taiwanese funding.
The Office of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Rural Development has given the MPs seven days to produce their acquittals before auditors are sent to their constituencies to establish how the funds were spent.
The statement said that this is a serious problem and the MPs must take drastic actions to produce evidences of how they use the money to the Prime Minister’s Office in order for ROC to release the next development assistance for this year.
According to the Ministry of Rural Development the rest of the constituencies have well acquitted their funds and included in acquittal report already delivered to the Embassy on the Republic of China.
