Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s makes jubilee special

ACTING Governor General Sir Allan Kemakeza said Solomon Islands celebration of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II diamond jubilee is special for the Solomon Islands.


Sir Allan who stepped in to preside over formalities in the absence of the Governor General in yesterday’s ceremony to mark the Queen’s diamond jubilee, said that everyone is looking forward to their visit.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Princesses Kate will visit the country in September this year as part of the Queen’s diamond jubilee celebrations.

“I am sure all Solomon Islanders are looking forward to this visit.”

He said as a result through the approval of the Queen, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Trust has been created. 

“It is established to create a lasting tribute to Her Majesty the Queen.”

The Chairman of the Trust is Sir John Major KG GH, a former British Prime Minister.

In respond to a call from the Trust Chairman, Commonwealth States and Realms have nominated representatives across the globe to help in the work of the Trust.

In each of the countries, these representatives will work on behalf of the Trust to provide information about the Trust to citizens and promote awareness of their work; encourage and support fund raising activities and keep the Trust updated on activities in their country.

In the Solomon Islands through the advice of the Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo, Sir Thomas Chan was appointed as an Honorary Envoy in Solomon Islands.  

He will be the Solomon Islands focal point of contact for the Trust.

The acting Governor General appealed to all Solomon Islanders to support Sir Thomas and his committee in their endeavours.
