A talk will be held between the disputing landowning groups of
Gwaunaru’u airport and the Government this week.
The talk is to pave way for the reopening of Gwaunaru’u Airport.
The airport was closed down mid last year due to claims the Government failed to address their outstanding arrears.
Permanent Secretary Francis Lomo from the Ministry of Communication and Aviation said he will have a clear picture after the discussion but added the Government wants the issue addressed as soon as possible.
“We have decided to meet and look at ways to quickly reopen the airport.”
He said an arrangement was made yesterday for land owners residing in Malaita Province to travel to Honiara today.
He said the delegation from Malaita includes landowners from both disputing parties and their provincial member.
Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo prior to traveling to Brazil said he wants to see the airport reopened before the start of the festival next week.
