Provincial Secretary John Steward said the Minister for Provincial Government Silas Tausinga was invited to be the guest of honour for the celebration.
Mr Steward said programs should start around mid morning today.
The day will be highlighted with speeches from the Premier and guest of honour followed by feasting and entertainment.
“We invited Guadalcanal people to join today’s celebration at Doma.”
The PS said according to the provincial government’s plan this year’s celebration will be a low key one.
However he said the government has decided to host it at Doma seeing the event as an opportunity for the government to talk to its people after the Festival of Pacific Arts.
“We see this as an opportunity to reaffirm our partnership with our people thus we decided last Friday to host it at Doma.”
Mr Steward added schools in the province are expected to close and honour the day.
He said despite the main celebration is held at Doma, other parts of Guadalcanal Province far from the main celebrating venue will celebrate in their own way.
