Temotu premier welcomes mining company

Temotu Provincial Executive on Thursday has welcomed the Sol’sing Marine Enterprises Ltd to do mining prospecting in the province.

Sol’sing Marine Enterprises Ltd is a company owned by Singapore and Indonesia Partners and is interested to prospect Bauxite at Temotu Nende.

Premier of Temotu Province Fr Brown Beu yesterday said the provincial government has met and endorsed the company proposal to operate in the province.

Fr Beu said according to documents provided to them, the National Government had granted an area of 467 square kilometres.

“We sighted the initial investment for prospecting offered by the company which stands at 1.6 billion where $ 600,000 million will be used to develop Temotu Province.”

The premier said the provincial executive has welcomed the investor to the province seeing that the operation will help advance the policy of the provincial government to widen the economy base of the province.

He said that there will be increase economic activities and employment opportunity in the province to allow Temotuans residing in other provinces seeking employment opportunity to return to their home province.

Fr Beu added that the company has promised to upgrade the existing infrastructures that are now deteriorating at Lata Town.

“These include the existing road, wharf, airport runaway, schools and the provincial office.”

The premier said prospecting should kick start after the Surface Access Agreement is done between the landowners and the company.

He said the Surface Access Agreement will be done soon but the date is yet to be confirmed.
