THE giant African snails are multiplying and moving into town.
Yesterday, two men spotted a big snail near the Vuvula shop in China town.
“We found it while it is laying its eggs,” one of the men said.
“Truly, this snail is getting out of control,” another said.
They said this is the fourth time the snail was spotted in China town.
Late last month, residents of Varamta near Vara Creek found a large number in their area.
“This is a real threat to our crops,” they said.
The deadly snails were first discovered in 2007. It’s believed they came through with logging machines brought in by loggers.
The Quarantine Division appeared to have lost control of its initial exercise to contain the pest.
