Radio Australia: PNG's opposition leader, Dame Carol Kidu, has called for an intensive review of the country's constitution.

Dame Carol made the call in a presentation to the Australian think tank the Lowy Institute in Sydney.

After 10 months of unprecedented political instability Dame Carol says it is absolutely critical that the government returned after this month's election establishes a bi-partisan constitutional review committee.

The committees task would be a big one, and it would need broad consultation with the community and clear terms of reference she said.

Dame Carol suggested the committee consider moves to increase the independence of the speaker and court appointments, to reduce the number of political parties and the introduction of a two-chamber house.
