NEW CALEDONIA yesterday cleared way for a first ever Island nation to enter the confederations cup.
New Zealand had been holding onto the crown since Australia left the Oceania to join Asia in 2006.
NZ clinched to the top spot on three occasions and is still not ready at any time soon to relinquish the title to any Islanders, but their search for the fourth was yesterday shattered by the growing standard of Island soccer.
They felt the heat of stiff resistance from Islanders when they initially hit a brick wall against the Bonitos this week with a 1 all draw.
They realized yesterday that Island nations are prepared to give them some taste of defeat when New Caledonia nailed in two unanswered goals.
The first semi-final saw Tahiti through after narrowly escaping the determined Bonito with a one unanswered goal.
