DEAR EDITOR – Let me continue with series of awareness for the Christians of our nations this coming election.
As emphasized in my last letter, this is a very crucial election.
If as implied in our statistic that 75% of our population are Christians then the church of Solomon Islands should have caused an impact in past elections.
But I suspect that a lot of Christians are remaining on the sidelines in alarming numbers.
As Christian citizenship, choosing a leader of character who loves justice is our duty and privilege.
People in the public office may be the wrong people but the government is ordained by God.
Therefore political engagement – including voting – is a God-given, blood bought right that Christian must take seriously.
We are called by our Lord Jesus to be preserving salt and illuminating light in our cutlure.
In creating His man, God summoned him to rule and have dominion.
When God asked Moses to choose leaders to rule the 3 million Jews, He precisely stated that leaders who will be of the same spirit.
In other word God is not asking for any how leaders who can easily be corrupted. So I encouraged every Christian that it is your obligation to influence our nation for the better.
Secondly, every Christian need to understand that they are free people set free by Our Lord Jesus and should go to the polls as such.
Christian citizens whose consciousnesses are ruled by others should not govern a free nation.
Voters should value their vote but not sell it.
As Christian citizens we need to give validity to our convictions in voting according to our best capacities.
The solution to our nation is not in introducing or passing many bills or laws.
For the problem of our nation is a heart problem. Passing many bills will not change any leader’s heart. We need a leaderw ith a change heart. For out of the heart of man come the issues of life.
Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to people.
May God bless Solomon Islands and its coming general election 2010.
