MORE one hundred participants from around Ranoggah and Simbo (RANOSI) in the Western Province are undergoing a one-week 10,000 Toes Health Risk Assessment training at Buri, Ranoggah.
Training facilitators from the Solomon Islands Mission (SIM) of the Adventist Church based in Honiara and Kukudu are conducting the training.
It commenced on Monday and will end this weekend, reports reaching Solomon Star said.
“10,000 toes Health Risk Assessment training in Ranongah District, Western Province is underway at Buri. More than 100 participants attended the training,” Associate Health Director at the SIM Office, Gad Koito, who is helping to facilitate the training, said.
He highlighted the importance of moving the body each day.
“Sitting too long is an enemy to your health. Our bodies are meant for movement, keep moving, make 10000 steps daily your goal,” Mr Koito said.
As part of the training, the participants will attend theory sessions during which they will learn about the risks associated with eating unhealthy diet and physical inactiveness.
They will also learn about the risks associated with Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) which are now a leading cause of death in the country.
The training participants will receive certificates after their training which will certify them as ambassadors and will be equipped with kits to conduct health checks for sugar level, blood pressure, height, weight and body mass index (BMI).
