11 July 2017, Noumea – On 27 July 2017, representatives of the Pacific Community’s 26 members will meet at SPC Headquarters in Noumea for the Conference of the Pacific Community.
This Conference, held every two years, will be chaired by Mr. Philippe Germain, President of the New Caledonia Government, and will also host the leaders of several Pacific countries as well as certain distinguished guests.
The theme chosen for the high-level dialogue for this Conference, which will also mark SPC’s 70th anniversary, is “Innovative Partnerships for Sustainable Development”.
A series of key-note speakers will take the floor to contribute to the dialogue, including, Ms Hilda Heine, President of the Republic of Marshall Islands; Mr Yukiya Amano, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency; Mr Pascal Lamy, High Level Facilitator for out-reach activities on the Post-Cotonou Agreement.
The presence in Noumea of several Heads of State or Governments as well as that of Mr Pascal Lamy will also provide an opportunity for a meeting between the European Union and ACP countries and the Pacific OCTs, organised jointly by New Caledonia and the European Union at SPC Headquarters.
To close out the week, SPC will celebrate its 70th anniversary with its member countries and territories and partners on Friday, 28 July.
The Conference will be preceded by the meeting of the Committee of Representatives of Governments and Administrations (CRGA) from 24 to 26 July.
