ABOUT 139 people in total were affected by influenza and diarrhea in the Malaita Outer Island (MOI) community of Pelau.
This is according to a report released by the outbreak investigation team after its return from Pelau.
The findings as stated in the report shows that 38% of the total 139 who are affected with Influenza-like Illness (ILI), while 33% were affected with Diarrhea.
For those affected by ILI, 58 of them were children from age 0-9, eight of them from age 10-19, five of them from age 20-29, four of them from age 30-39, three of them from age 40-49, only one from age 50-59.
For those affected by Diarrhea, 39 of them were children of age between 0-9, three of them from age 10-19, four of them from age 20-29, and only one person from age 50-59.
The report stated that there is a decline in the case of ILI and Diarrhea in the second week of May.
The outbreak investigation team left Auki to Pelau on Tuesday 11 May to investigate the increased case of influenza and diarrhea and returned on 18 May.
As part of management and control measures in place, a registered nurse is now stationed in Pelau, medicine supply stocked, communication radios fixed, an awareness program on risk behaviour identified, and assist in immediate health setting planning during outbreaks.
