A FUNDRAISING drive for the purchase of a Starlink internet disk for Luesalemba Provincial Secondary School (LPSS) in Temotu Province held at the Kokonut Café in Honiara last weekend raised $18,616.00
Apart from the raised funding worth $18, 616.00 from the main fundraising event, few prominent figures also donated to the fundraising and they included the Governor of the Central Bank, Dr Luke Forau, who hails from Tikopia island in Temotu Province, the Minister for Infrastructure Development, Manaseh Maelanga, Temotu Premier Stanley Tehiahua and Temotu Provincial Secretary-Casper Tuplo. Others who also donated towards the fundraising included Lucy Bonunga, Norman Tanen, Mostyn Paikai, Rose Tungale and George Maomai.
The organizing committee, comprises of Jimmy Reynolds, Bruce Trevor Palusi and Cedric Takilmwa, acknowledged every individual who responded to their call and made the initiative a success.
They also thanked business houses, Fleet Solomons for the supply of goods and TESSA Enterprises for the supply of beers.
The call for the fund raising came about due to internet connectivity issues that LPSS students have been facing since June last year.
This caused forms 5, 6 and 7 students to travel to Lata to access online learning resources.
Thus, a letter from the School Principal, John Meonga sought support from the people of Temotu in Honiara and the general public to assist out in a fundraising drive.
In his letter of appeal, Mr Meonga said internet is a dire need for the students since they have experienced onsets of internet connectivity challenges since June 2023.
He added that the school is Temotu Province’s premier school, which will continue to train future leaders and should be the pride of Temotuans.
As such, he stated that he would really appreciate whatever contributions are given toward the fundraising.
According to the organizing committee, they will look for and purchase a Starlink internet disk and deliver it to the school in due course.
