GCU: The Solomon Islands Government wishes to advise all Government Ministries and Agencies, Business Houses, Diplomatic Missions and International Agencies and the General Public that Tuesday 1st of March 2016 has been declared as a “National Day of Mourning” in honour of the Late Sir Peter Kenilorea who passed away on Thursday 25th of February 2016.
A full State Funeral Service has been organised by relevant government officials and as such, Tuesday 1st March 2016 has been declared as a “Special Public Holiday” by the Minister of Home Affairs, Hon. Manasseh Maelanga in an Extraordinary Gazettes under the Public Holidays Act (cap 151).
The body of the Late Sir Peter will Lay in State at the National Parliament from 8:00am to 1:30pm for viewing by senior Government Officials, Dignitaries and members of the public.
This will be followed by a procession from the National Parliament to the Honiara SSEC Central Church for the funeral service at 2:00pm.
The body of the Late Sir Peter will be transported by boat to his home village at Rara in East Are’Are, Malaita Province for burial later in the evening on Tuesday.
The Public is further advised that the Central Honiara Market will also be closed for business and the Honiara Traffic will be tightly controlled on certain occasions.
