Makira/Ulawa has started its week-long provincial awareness on the 2nd 2014 Draft Federal Constitution of Solomon Islands in Kirakira on Monday.
In attendance are about 50 participants are including chiefs, community and church leaders, women, business representatives, government officials and professionals from Makira/Ulawa province, the province’s former and current politicians, and Members of the Provincial Assembly (MPA).
Premier Thomas Weape is chairman of the meetings, which is held at the Assembly Chambers in Kirakira.
By Day two, the Constitutional Reform Unit (CRU) team, joined by Warren Paia, Secretary for Fundamental Reforms Sector from the Prime Minister’s Office arrived to complete this consultation.
Mr Paia made a presentation on the features and history of the current unitary system and the proposed Federal system for Solomon Islands.
CRU Consultant Lawyer Reginald Teutao will take participants through the professionally drafted 2nd 2014 Draft Federal Constitution.
The awareness program should end on Friday 14 August 2015.
