THE 2015 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence against women and girls in the country was officially opened yesterday.
Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare officially opened the event on Wednesday.
According to the organizing committee, the campaign started yesterday and will end on 10th of December.
“Gender-based violence is a serious problem in the country and my government is looking serious at ways to end it,” PM Sogavare said.
“Thank you ministry of women, youth, Children and family affairs and other authorities for working together to try and fight against this violence,” he added.
“It is everybody’s task that we together will end this violence in the country.
“Nobody wants to leave in violence, therefore let us stand together to stop this violence against women and girls,” Mr. Sogavare added.
He said the heart of violence is in the family.
“This means that fighting against gender-based violence is everybody’s business and my government is looking forward to work together with everyone to stop it in this country,” Mr. Sogavare added.
He said that his government is working toward the commencement of the Family Protection Act soon.
