THIS year’s Miss Solomon Islands Pageant will be staged on the 20th and 21st October under the theme ‘Women in Peace and Harmony with Society.’
Pageant Director Joyce Konofilia of Solomon Host said the theme was chosen to coincide with post RAMSI and women’s contributions to sustaining peace in our society.
“Our women are the backbone of our families and society. They play a critical role in ensuring there is peace and harmony in their communities, society, businesses, political level and all walks of life,” Ms Konofilia said.
“The objective is to encourage young women to respect and realise their potential in being part of a peaceful and harmonious society.
“Not only that, the pageant is also for our young women to showcase their talents and gifts of being productive, beautiful and intelligent contributors to development and stability in our communities.
“The pageant also provides a platform for the promotion of tourism as well as advancing the interest of local businesses that supports women endeavours in the country,” Ms Konofilia added.
On the 20th of October, the public will witness a speech competition by the contestants. There will be a panel of judges officiating in this event. The contestants’ speeches will be based on selected topics relating to the Pageant Theme. The speech competition will be held at the National Museum Auditorium.
There will also a float procession from SINU Tourism School to Rove and finally to National Art Gallery.
Each contestant will have her own float organised by her sponsor and chaperons.
On the 21st of October, Honiara residents will be treated to the finale of the show that is the crowning of the winning contestant.
Besides the Speech Competition, contestants will be judged on sarong, talent, traditional contemporary wear and on-stage interview performances.
The winning contestant will be crowned Miss Solomon Islands 2017. A separate award will be awarded for the best float. Each of the events will have a different set of judges appointed by Miss Solomon Islands Pageant Board with specific judging criteria.
