TWENTY thousand dollars are up for grab for the Marovo Constituency’s seven-a-side soccer tournament that is currently underway at Seghe, Marovo Lagoon in Western Province.
The tournament was made possible thanks to the Member of Parliament (MP) for Marovo Constituency Chachabule Amoi for hosting the tournament.
It was officially opened last week.
The tournament is part of supporting soccer development and also prepare Marovo teams for the upcoming Western Cup (WP) in Gizo this month.
Amoi donated 100 soccer balls and sponsored the first three prizes in cash for the best three teams.
The 20k is to be shared as follows $10k for first prize, $6k for second prize and $4k for third prize that should total up to net balance of $20k.
The cash prizes included the 100 balls have been given to Marovo Football Association (MFA) after the opening of the tournament last week.
John Pikacha working with Marovo Constituency said Amoi has seen the importance of developing football amonsgt the younger generation.
He said the MP wants to see young people in Marovo involve in soccer, developing in the sport and well discipline in the sport.
“Honorable Chachabule Amoi sees the importance of assisting our younger generation to fully develop their soccer talents to much higher standards and to be good well-disciplined youth in the years to come.
“Thank you Honourable for assisting our younger generation,” he said.
All Western Provincial wards are currently hosting soccer tournaments and leagues to prepare them for the upcoming WP Cup.
Western Cup is the highest soccer tournament in the province.
