The caretaker Western Provincial Administration has supported the Honiara-based Western Province community to host the province’s second appointed day with $30, 000 in December.
This was revealed during the budget debate on Friday in Gizo.
The explanation came following a question by the Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) for ward of Iriqila in Vella Freedom Tozaka.
The MPA questioned the amount of $30, 000 which appeared in the revised budget as to how the money was spent when there was no government in place from June to December last year.
Because of lack of a government, no formal celebration was held in the province.
However, in response the Minister of Finance and Deputy Premier Calrick Runimetu said, the money was released to the Honiara-based community to celebrate the Western Provincial Second Appointed Day for several days in Honiara last month.
Western Provincial second appointed day normally falls on 7th December.
Around the province there was very little celebration being held last December.
However, the Western community in Honiara were able to organize a big celebration over several days.
During the celebration, communities from the various islands and groups were able to showcase their various cultural performances and activities.
The event was held the former FOPA Village in Panatina.
