Prime Minister Hon. Manasseh Sogavare MP has set today aside along with his colleague Members of Parliament to part-take in the third Standing Orders Review Workshop.
The Parliamentary House Committee led workshop took almost the whole day at the Paul Tovua Complex, National Parliament Compound.
Broadly, the workshop with dedicated, dynamic and engaging participants from both sides of the House aims to strengthen the country’s legislative capacity, improve constitutional reforms and parliamentary procedures.
It is an important part of the process to inform all MPs of proposed amendments, obtain views and facilitate ongoing dialogue, to reach a consensus and adoption by the House.
The review is one of the components of the 2017-2021 Parliamentary Strategy Plan;
i. To enhance the institutional capacity of Parliament
ii. To improve the legislative process in Parliament to ensure enhanced scrutiny and quality of legislation.
iii. To improve capacity of Parliament to provide effective oversight.
iv. To develop the education and outreach work of Parliament.
The objective is to complete the review soon so that the updated version of the Standing Order is effective in the next House.
The Parliament House Committee Chair is Hon. Rick Hou.
UNDP and the National Parliament of Solomon Islands facilitated the Standing Orders
