THE Malaysian Community here in the country has raised $440,000 and was donated for charity.
The fund was raised during a golf competition hosted by the Malaysian companies at the Honiara Golf Club over the weekend.
The funds were distributed to the Rotary Club, Honiara Golf Club and the Solomon Islands Golf Federation.
“Every year the Malaysian community here in the Solomon Islands celebrates Malaysia Independence Day by organizing a golf competition.
“The funds raised during the tournament this year will be donated towards charity.
“We have decided to donate the money to charity.
“This year we raised $440,000, one of the biggest funds raised so far.
“We donated $210,000 to the Rotary Club, $210,000 to the Honiara Golf Club and $20,000 to the Solomon Islands Golf Federation,” said Sylvia Wong the Secretary to the Honorary Malaysian Councilor.
The sponsorship came from 22 Malaysian Companies who are currently operating in the country, each company donated $20,000 each.
Participants of the golf competition were slotted into 22 different teams representing each of the sponsors.
Honiara Club vice president John Prasad thanked the Malaysian Companies for the donation saying the assistance will go towards preparing the Honiara Golf Course for future competitions.
“The Honiara Golf Club would like to thank the Malaysian Companies for the support.
“Honiara Golf Club needs machines to upgrade the golf course so this assistance will go towards a new tractor,” Prasad said.
