PRIME Minister (PM) Manasseh Sogavare this afternoon announced a further 48 cases of COVID-19 in Honiara.
This now brings the total to more than 80 cases since the country first recorded its first case.
The latest cases were recorded over from 8am on Wednesday to 8am this morning.
Some of those who were infected are crews of MV Awka, family members of those who contracted virus in Ontong Java, Maritime staff and a number of NRH emergency staff.
PM then encourages all to get vaccinated as soon as possible, wear masks and follow safety measures when going out in the public.
PM Sogavare believes the number of cases might increase in the coming days.
He said the country’s health system is expected to stretch to the limit given the current dire situation in the country.
