A 6.3 MAGNITUDE undersea earthquake has occurred 107km West – North west of Kirakira, Makira Province at 4:02pm yesterday afternoon the Meteorological Services office in Honiara has confirmed.
Following the earthquake, the Weather office said there is no tsunami threat to Makira province and its nearby islands.
“An undersea earthquake of magnitude 6.3 occurred at 4:02pm this afternoon (yesterday) near Latitude 10.08 Degrees South, Longitude 161.03 Degrees East.
“This is approximately 107 km West-Northwest of Kirakira, Makira Province.
“No Tsunami threat to the Solomon Islands issued by the Solomon Islands Meteorological Service at 4:20pm this afternoon on Monday 27th January 2020.
“No further updates will be issued unless the situation changes,’’ the statement said.
