A total of 74 international arrival are still in quarantine and five have tested positive, announced the Health Minister, Dr Culwick Togamana in his nationwide address on 3rd May 2022.
Dr Togamana said as part of Health’s ongoing response, a total of 74 international arrival are still in quarantine, all arrived from the recent flights from Brisbane, Australia.
“From these 74 people, 5 have tested positive and will be undergoing extended period quarantine and additional testing”, said the Health Minister Dr Culwick Togamana.
He explained with domestic travels the ministry continues to advise that those testing positive to home isolate and refrain from travelling until they turn negative.
“We are also quarantining ships whose crew members test positive for COVID-19”, said Dr Togamana.
He also reported in Western Province that MV Bilikiki is currently being quarantine at the Gizo harbor after 4 of its 7-crew members tested positive.
“All these undertakings as explained before, are necessary to mitigate any further spread between our islands, provinces and amongst our population”, said Dr Togamana.
Meanwhile, the Minister reiterated the importance for all of us to still maintain the momentum of cooperation and adherence to COVID-19 public safe measures and health advisories like we did in January through to February 2022.
“Let us not let our guards yet. Not yet”, Urged Dr Togamana.
He stated the show of support from the public was truly encouraging however this has deteriorated as the experience of recovering from COVID-19 may have given us the confident that we as individuals can still overcome the virus once infected.
“The most important thing that we must understand is that those we live with who have underlying health conditions, those of old age, even children and those practicing unhealthy lifestyles are still at risk of being very sick and die from COVID-19.
“This we must not take lightly and therefore the need to still to uphold COVID-19 safe measures and protocols. Until the virus leaves our shores, let’s not be complacent nor lenient in our attitudes towards the virus”, advised Dr Togamana.
