…After three years Malaita finally receives provincial grant
MALAITA province is now qualified to receive its SBD$8.9million grant under the Provincial Government Strengthening Program this year.
This was confirmed by the Malaita provincial Premier Peter Chanel Ramohia in an interview on Monday.
Mr Ramohia who could not hide his excitement after receiving the news said, that he was pleased to announce the news upon receiving confirmation from the Ministry of Provincial Government yesterday.
“For Malaita province, this is big news indeed and a welcoming one which means our development plans can now be fulfilled,” he added.
He said, the province has been unable to receive the grant for the past three years since 2010 until now.
“This is because the past government fail to meet the requirement to receive that funding assistance.”
He said, it has been one of his government’s aim to acquire the grant this time around.
“This is one of our aims and now we are ready to receive the grant.”
He explained, this money will purposely go towards infrastructure development in the province.
“I will call the assembly to discuss how to use the money but purposely this money is for infrastructure.”
The premier described the news as a dream come true.
“This is a dream come true for the province and the people of the province because it gives us hope that our province will be on the right track to fulfilling its development aspirations after three solid years of wondering,” the excited Premier said yesterday.
The announcement came after the province celebrated its 32nd anniversary in Auki on Friday.
Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare with members of his delegation attended the second appointed day in which he assured government’s commitment towards supporting the province in its development plans.
