Nine people were diagnosed with Covid-19 case during their post arrival test since the reopening of the international borders and implementation of ‘No mandatory quarantine policy.’
This has prompted Prime Minister Sogavare to reinforce his call to be vigilant in managing all those tested positive to remain at home for period of seven days.
“Fellow Solomon Islanders since the reopening of international borders and implementation of ‘No mandatory quarantine policy’ for international arrival we have diagnosed nine people with convid-19 during their post arrival test,” he said.
Prime Minister Sogavare said one of the nine positive cases is diagnosed with the new Omicron subvariant BA4, making this the third variant of Covid-19 in the country.
He said it is important for Solomon Island citizens to understand that COVID-19 will continue to be a challenge for the country as it is with all other countries.
“Because we are no longer quarantining all international arrivals, or people that are infected through domestic community transmission in institutional quarantine, we need to be more vigilant in managing all those that are tested positive to ensure they remain in home quarantine for a period of seven days after testing positive to reduce the chance of spreading the virus to others,” he said.
He said it is also important to ensure that other people that live in the same household as those that test positive for COVID-19 remain home for a period of at least seven days because they have been exposed to the infected persons.
