Isabel provincial premier James Habu says his government will this year focus on rebuilding and construction of jetties around the province.
He revealed this during a meeting held with the Solomon Islands visitors bureau (SIVB) officials in Buala last Friday.
Mr Habu said the province would renovate existing jetties and build some additional ones to enable rural people on the island to load and discharge their products from boats safely.
“Most existing wharves around Isabel Island are in deteriorating state and unsafe for passengers to load and unload.
“Therefore my government is focusing on improving and building jetties in most of the ports around the island.”
The premier was unable to indicate how many jetties would benefit under the project and the likely cost that will be involved.
