The Solomon Islands Women in Business Association or SIWIBA has announced that its proposed second Mere’s market had been deferred to a later date.
In a statement the association said it regrets to advise the members and the public that the upcoming Meres’ market proposed for April 23rd -25th at Ports Authority Ground ,near Commonwealth street, has now been postponed for a later date.
“The venue for the proposed market will be used for storage of relief supplies for the flood victims during the same period.”
SIWIBA president, Dalcy Tekulu said a new date will be advised later.
“We regret the change however we as good citizens of the country we must stand by with our support to the need of those affected first thus we respect the decision of Ports Authority to accommodate relief supplies at the venue .”
According to the Committee chair Ms. Alice Kale explained that SIWIBA understands that unloading of the containers will also involve a lot of dangerous activities thus it is important to take safety measures first.
In addition to that Ms. Kale stressed that the Ports Authority Ground is suitable for Mere Market and it is wise that Mere Market be hosted at a later date on that particular area.
She also added that members need to settled themselves and make good preparation especially after the recent flooding and the upcoming Easter celebration event.
“The SIWIBA Mere Market committee also apologies to members for the short notice however they are still encouraging women to get prepared and sign up for later date,” she said
