The colorful carol competition lighted up Auki Primary school sport ground in Malaita province last night.
This was the first ever competition to be organized in the township.
Its being sponsored by Our Telekom as part of promoting its products through music and sales.
Our Telekom marketing manager, Robertson Szetu said the judges will select the best carol group out from the first seven of the 28 groups which participate in this competition.
Mr Szetu said the competition is being held in Malaita to promote its social network in some of the identified stations in rural areas.
῝Our Telekom plans to erect 14 new towers on Malaita, so this competition is one way to promote this new initiative,” he said.
Mr. Szetu said the seven groups will performed each day until Thursday this week and the final four will performed this weekend on Saturday.
He said entry into the competition is free with big prizes up for grab at the end of the day.
The winner will run away with $8000.
The runners up will get $6000 followed by $5000 in the third place.
The fourth placer will get $4000.
The prizes will be given on this coming Saturday.
