A deal was signed last week to extend New Zealand’s funding support to the Honiara City Council through the Honiara Economic Development Support Programme (HEDSUP) for this year.
Honiara City Mayor Andrew Mua and Acting New Zealand High Commissioner Sarah Wong signed the agreement last Friday 28th February.
A total amount of SDB $6.8 Million is committed for the programme’s 2014 work plan to support the improvement of the council’s waste management services; market refurbishments, fencing and expansion; the establishment of a City Hotline; and the HCC public library refurbishments, among others.
In signing the arrangement, Acting NZ High Commissioner Sarah Wong emphasised the importance of HCC ensuring this financial support is well managed and translates into real results for the benefit of Honiara citizens.
The HEDSUP started operations in early 2013. It is a project of Honiara City Council, with support from the New Zealand Government.
Its goal is towards improving the city’s future and quality of life for all residents and business environment through efficient local government administration, effective local governance and, improved urban management.
