A new soccer academy is about to start. Called Pacific Football Academy it will be based in Honiara and privately funded.
It will be open to interested players from all over the country.
Headed by a well-known former Solomon Islands international the aim is to develop players both mentally and physically to the stage where they can play their trade overseas such as Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.
The long term plan is to develop players so they can break into the more lucrative markets such as Asia and even Europe. It will also be a good breeding ground for future Solomon Islands Internationals.
Once things are in order formal invitation will be put out in the media calling for interested candidates. The proposed age range is 8 to 20 years but those outside this range can still be considered depending on management approval.
The Training times will be in the afternoons around 2 to 6pm to allow time for kids attending school to participate.
Because it will be privately funded candidates will be expected to pay minimal fees to enrol but management hopes to secure fundings in future to enable candidates who can’t afford the fees to attend.
The academy will also be open to players in existing teams such as KOSSA, Warriors, etc who may wish to improve their skills on certain aspects of the game.
All the instructors will be former Internationals who have played their trade overseas in the past. The aim is to develop footballers to become professional players and these guys know what it takes to reach that level.
