THE MONTH of December was a time of Christmas celebration to mark the birth of our saviour Jesus Christ in the Christian calendar.
Thursday 19th December 2013 marked a historic event at Sibilado village in north Vella La Vella, Western Province.
A new 500-seat church building was dedicated and officially opened.
The opening service was conducted by Bishop Rev. Zeberd Padokana and the new church building was dedicated by Rev Wilfred Kurepitu – the Moderator of United Church in Solomon Islands.
Between 2000 and 4000 people who came from Honiara, Munda, Noro, Gizo, surrounding Islands and nearby villages gathered to witness the dedication and opening of the new church building.
The new church building was designed and engineered by Ronald Ivupitu a son and product of Sibilado village.
The construction took Sibilado community 10 years to complete under the supervision of Mr Ivupitu.
The process to construct the church building was very challenging in terms of finance but with the contribution from the community by way of free will offering, constant fundraising and support from working people from the community, member of Parliament, business friends and others, the community managed to accomplish the task.
Sibilado village is the headquarters of Java circuit in north Vella La Vella and the opening of the new church building will certainly accommodate bigger congregation in any future activities and programmes hosted in the village.
