More than 100 leaders from communities, church, women and youths, faith based organisations and tertiary institutions in Honiara came togetheron Monday to discuss women in leadership.
This forum was facilitated by the ministry of women, youth, children and family affairs (MWYCFA) and Solomon Islands National council of Women (SINCW).
The discussion was based on gender equality, women in development and more specifically on women’s leadership and participating in decision making.
Committee member of the country’s national council of women Ella Kauhue said the forum was to call for shared decision making in parliament and provincial assemblies in the country.
Ms Kauhue added that it is vital as shared responsibility needed to cause national equality amongst women and men with leadership for the governance and protection of our people with hope and properity of our nation.
National Council of Women (NCW)gender desk officer Casper Fa’asala further added choosing a good leader is very important.
He also encouraged networking by women and other groups to look for female leaders with quality.
Mr Fa’asala highlighted that women also has wisdom to take leadership like men in parliament despite of challenges they face in cultural barriers in a male dominated society.
Meanwhile one of the participants Harry James acknowledged the ministry for facilitating the forum to discuss issues regarding electing women with leadership quality into parliament.
