The PNG Games Host Organising Committee (HOC) is planning for all refurbishments to be completed by this October.
PNG Games CEO Materua Tamarua said that current renovations included: the Sir Ignatius Kilage Indoor Stadium with full refurbishments taking place including new flooring, improved lighting and ventilation, and increased seating capacity to hold up to 1000 people.
He said that for the outdoor stadium, at present the synthetic track had been removed and a new track would be laid in August.
“In the meantime, works are currently being completed on the drainage, which is an important component as it will help to maintain the tracks for the future. Refurbishments to the toilet facilities are also taking place,” said Tamarua.
He said that the Sir Ignatius Swimming Pool was undergoing major refurbishments including new surfacing/tiling, painting and updates to the pumps/filters.
“There are minor updates planned including new line markings and lighting for the volleyball courts and new surfacing has already been completed with clean and line markings to come for the netball courts,” said Materua.
