A Transformative Leadership, Media, Gender and Elections training has kick off on Monday in Honiara.
The training is organised by Vois Blong Mere Solomon in partnership with UN Women’s Strongem Mere Project for mainstream and community media in preparation for the upcoming National Election.
The overall goal of the training was to promote transformational leadership to improve equality, justice and peace.
In his brief remarks, the European Union first resident ambassador to Solomon Islands Leonidas Tezapsidis highlighted to participants the more than 10 participants the importance of gender in supporting women and the effort to increase their participation in politics, economics and development.
Mr Tezapsidis also highlighted the significant role media plays in our society.
He said this group (media) are extremely important in communicating and passing the right messages.
“Not only reporting on gender but all kinds of issues regarding change and good governance.”
The four-day training continues this week with participants from the media, civil society members and NGOs.
Participants will involve in activities and discussions during the weeklong training.
